Harry, All tires do not need to match Model or Type if the spare is an original tire. You can have Redline or Goldline, blackwall Road tires and an original whitewall spare. You can have 4 BF Goodrich DOT reproduction road tires and a US Royal original spare.

There was a long discussion about this at one of the last few Texas Regionals. Possibly during the Paint judging school or at the morning judges breakfast.

That's what I thought I said. Whatever the tires are they must match type, model and size for the model year. Meaning, if the spare is a non-DOT it still must be one available by type, model and size for that model year.

But the spare does not need to match the 4 DOT road tires. Your statement may lead people to infer that ALL tires must match. That's all I was adding.

I agree, the spare need not match the 4 on the ground.

Last question: What is the deduction if you have 4 DOT road tires, and a DOT spare, but the DOT spare is a different brand from the 4 road tires?

Even though not specifically addressed in the Std Deduction Guideline, the answer for the 63/64 team and the 65 team is Full deduct (6 points) on the spare, and 2 points on the 4 road tires.. It's only common sense that a full set of reproduction tires would be a matching set of 5 tires. Other Divisions may treat the question differently.

Thanks Don. Given the umerous possible permutations given five tires, I can see why not everything is described in the standard deductions.

Gary, That was the exact discussion in Texas. The spare MUST match if all 5 tires are DOT reproductions. Don's point assessment is spot on!

Since there is a Goldline reproduction tire that is the correct manufacture and brand, but not installed on the corvette assembly line, you need to make sure your tires are on the list of tires that were installed at time of assembly. This line item was missed at a national convention by the judges but not missed by Bill. Thank goodness I was an OJ when Bill asked if the judges caught it. We are not perfect. Later on, I had 4 of those Goldlines on a 66 that were passed on to the next owner.

If you look at page 90 of the 66 judging manual, you will notice on goldlines from the factory the Firestone Super Sports were an option. The reproduction goldlines I was referring to are Firestone Deluxe Champions, which was not an option, per the manual.
