1970 spare tire lock issue

Wanted to see if I had a firestone or goodyear in there. Looks like someone snapped off the key in there. Need ideas. Looks like the rubber boot is original style. Hoping I don't have to destroy it

Dennis, unbolt the two bolts to the crossmember and that will release the whole thing. If you need to remove the boot, use a heat gun/hair dryer to soften it before trying to remove it. Good luck!

Thanks Mike. I thought about using a floor jack on the carrier and maybe create some slack in the lock bolt. Not sure if the lock would keep it from swinging out of the way. Your idea sounds easier

PS Do as Mike says to remove the lock and bolt from the car.

I'm not positive it's a broken key. Hard to see in there with the cover on. Found a pic of a good lock. It has a block off I assume the key moves aside.(wishful thinking)

Spray with Kroil and try to pick from both sides with a dental tool if you have one or a very sharp ice pick. I have used and old ice pick for 0ver 50+ years on stuff.
