C2 Big Block rear stabilizer bolts

What are the correct grade and head markings for the four bolts that go thru the stabilizer link bushings on big block 1965, 1966 and 1967 . I can not find any answers in the judging manuals. Thanks

    Michael,

The ‘65, ‘66, and ‘67 AIMs all indicate those rear stabilizer bolts are GM 122007. In ‘66, that same bolt was used at multiple locations, including the radiator mounting, and the rear muffler hangers. I needed 13 for my SB ‘66. My notes say the bolt specs are: trimmed hex head, 5/16-18 x 3/4”, zinc/cad, Gr. 2. Although I have also seen the length reported as 7/8” and as 0.6”. Bit of a mystery there.

Multiple head markings are reported by various people, likely different for different years since those bolts go back to at least 1956. Heamarks reported include RSC, WB1C, L, E, WB. For ‘66 and ‘67 my guess is that RSC, and maybe L, might be found.

      Hi Gary,
Thanks for the reply. I was looking for information on the other four 1 3/8" long bolts (I believe) that connect the rear stabilizer bar to the connecting like to the trailing arms.

          Michael,
Here is some information on the bolts you're asking about. Not sure about the head marking but all else should apply.

            Michael,

In the archives, Joe Lucia has described that bolt as both black phosphate and as plain, which he notes can be almost black. To the best of my knowledge, there is no mention of typical headmarks for that bolt in the archives.

                Michael,

GM Engineering Standards state that bolt #179842 is 3/8-16 x 1 3/8" grade 5 (3 radial lines) plain finish. The '66 Judging Guide states these bolts are natural finish. However, my '66 L36 original bolts found there were the exact same dimensions and black phosphate plating as those shown in Leif's post #5. Interestingly, my bolt's original head marks are "C" as he shows. A friend's '66 L72 originals were also black phosphate with "RBW" head marks.

Here's a file photo I have of an "RBW" example. Original plating unknown. I plan on using black phosphate bolts there as my originals were found to be.

Engineering Standard Spec. is correct 179842 is plain, grade 5. If phosphate coated the part # would be 9418824
