    '72 T-top black out & trim?

I am cleaning and re-weatherstripping my '72 t-tops. One of them needs to have the skin re-bonded to the frame (using 3M 08115), both are stripped of crumbling rubber and my questions are:

    • Does the flat lip from the weatherstripping to the edge get any black-out type paint or is it just the fiberglass out of the mold look?
    • The metal strip above the window: Mine are painted black but it's a bright stainless underneath the paint. Should it be painted?
    • What is the sequence of attaching the rubber to the metal strip to the t-top? (i.e. where in the process are the screws installed?)
    • The rubber appears to have been attached with yellow adhesive (is this correct?) and the metal strip has black sealer between it and the t-top. What black sealer is recommended here?

    Thanks for any advice!

      Re: '72 T-top black out & trim?

      Thanks for the pics John.

The yellow adhesive was also pretty sparingly applied to my tops. There's little, if any, black out still on the lip from the rubber to the edges. Looks like dark gray glass with strands and a clean sheen. The rubber to under the headliner retains the black paint. Not sure if things were different in '72 vs. '73...

I've got the metal weatherstrip trim strips above the windows completely cleaned, straightened, and painted. The black caulking underneath that sealed them to the top appears that it was pretty thick and firm when new because the screw holes on both trim pieces were pretty well flared toward the top. Took a bit to straighten the deformation.

The AIM lists the black stuff as a cement, #3743852 - haven't been able to determine what modern product would be similar.
