    64 (4657) Fuel Pump Disassembly

fuel pump.jpgfuel pump 2.jpgI am having a dickens of a time trying to separate the 60 year old bottom from its base around the rubber gasket. There is no good position to pry apart without some real force and possible damage. Is there a trick you guys use. I searched the archives find nothing on this.
Also, can't seem to pry out the top diaphragm post guide seal. I am wanting to get a rebuild kit and don't want to destroy it in the process. Any advice is appreciated.

    Jim,
I just did that seal today. I used a small chisel to be sure the stake points around the perimeter were off. Then using same chisel I "pushed" the metal band towards the middle in a couple of spots and it came out (sorry, no pictures). Good luck.

Thanks Don; I gave it a whirl with a small cold chisel. But no go. I crimped in all 4 stake points and this tough steel is not budging. I'm thinking about using a Dremel tomorrow to cut some relief.

Bolt back together and apply air pressure or preferably hydraulic pressure with the two cover screws removed.

Dorsey, thank you so much for that tip. I took my tire pressure/inflator and threaded to the fitting. First tried 30 psi and nothing; then 40-- gave it a quick burst with the trigger and pop goes the weasel. fuel pump bottom removal.jpg
