Question on assembly sequence of secondary metering plate components on Holley 3810

    Hello,

Thank you for the replies to my question about torque values. I just want to keep everything even so as not to distort the aluminum body of this carb. I do have another issue that I'm looking at with this 3810 carburetor. I assembled the secondary plates and gaskets in the same order as I found them to be installed when I disassembled the carb some time ago. A thin gasket was found to be located against the carburetor body with a thin metal plate on top of it. The large gasket that seals the fuel bowl to the body was placed on top of the thin metal plate. Finally, a thick aluminum plate with passages machined into it was put on top of the large gasket. This is the way the secondary metering system was set up when I took the carburetor apart. My problem is this-the large gasket that seals the fuel bowl to the body of the carb is sitting about 1/16 of an inch above the body of the carburetor because it was installed over the thin gasket and thin steel plate. The large gasket is not sitting flat against the body of the carburetor. This doesn't seem correct and it makes me wonder if someone may have been in this carburetor before and re-assembled it incorrectly. It doesn't seem correct to me that the large gasket should be sitting 1/16 of an inch above the flat body of the carburetor. Is this assembly sequence correct or incorrect? Thank you very much.

Re: Question on assembly sequence of secondary metering plate components on Holley 38

    Hello,

I did some on-line searching and I found a video about these metering plate assemblies. The video goes through proper assembly of the four metering plate components. The video shows that the thin gasket goes between the thick and thin plates. This three piece assembly then goes on top of the large gasket which sits directly against the body of the carburetor. This sequence of assembly seems proper to me since the large gasket now sits flat against the carburetor body. Confirmation of this assembly sequence by members would still be appreciated. Thank you.

        Hello,

I don't have the ability to add photos at this time but I do appreciate the interest in my dilemma. The method of assembly that I found in an on-line video definitely makes more sense to me than the way "Billy Bubba" had assembled the secondary side when he last had his hands on this carburetor. Thank you for the replies received.
