"We still sell the silicone brake fluid because people are still using it in there vehicles that have the correct seals. Many vehicles have the peroxide seals that have never been changed out to new non-peroxide seals. So we still sell to who needs the fluid."

      Ed,

Boy there seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors, bob and weave, with this issue.

Although I had forgotten the exact name of the process, this is exactly what I had heard several years ago about brake seals. As I've said before, I firmly believe this is the root of brake seal problems with either glycol or silicone based fluids although it might be more pronounced with silicone fluids especially if the seals are made of silicone rubber.

            Bob,

Do you still have the SSBC master cylinder that leaked?

I had a SSBC Master Cylinder, that leaked with in six months, I was using Cartel Dot 5. So I replaced that Master Cylinder with one from Lone Star approximately two years ago. The Lone Star Master Cylinder is still in use, so far no signs of leaking, I’m still using Cartel Dot 5.

If you had put a proper seal kit in the SSBC master cylinder you would have had a perfectly functional and durable master cylinder even using DOT 5

But didn’t your Lone Star master cylinder also come with a warning about DOT 5 voiding their warranty? I think all the major brake components vendors have that warning these days.

                    Gary
                    Gary,
My gut says the warning labels are a CYA move so they don't have to ensure a continuous supply of a specific seal type. The label allows them to put in whatever seal is most economically available from their suppliers.

It certainly muddies the waters when every company has the disclaimer, but DOT 5 causes leaks with some seals, but not others.

It absolutely amazes me that ANY brake parts supplier would sell brake elastomeric components of unknown material OR of a material known to be incompatible with ANY DOT approved brake fluid formulation, DOT 5 or otherwise.

This does not just include the traditional Corvette brake parts suppliers but the major brake parts manufacturers like Raybestos, Wagner, EIS, Bendix, etc. We're not talking about radios, body panels, or air filters here, we're talking about SAFETY-CRITICAL BRAKE PARTS.
