Richard - no. I was referring to how to swap out the grease on my new bearing. I removed the retainer and felt oil seal then got the 24 loose bearings out and cleaned everything. I used the socket and a pipe to get the race out the mast, Mark

My hub is not entirely square to the shaft. I used the washer and nut to pull it on to the new NOS shaft and it is torqued to 35 lbs.

This is causing some interference when I compress the spring with the stop clamp.

Is there a way to get the hub square to the shaft ? Could my hub or NOS shaft been made out of square ?

I'll pull the shaft and take the hub off and check all the teeth. May need to clean up with a file. I'll also check the back side of the hub for burrs or any uneven mating surface.

If not, is there a good way to increase the gap between the steering wheel hub and turn signal housing ?

I am thinking of adding a lower spacer washer between the turn signal cancelling cam and upper bearing or shimming between the hub and signal cancelling cam to try to get more space.

Also, is the hole on the bottom of my steering shaft housing used for anything ? The Shop Manual shows this hole is used to set the gap on a 63 but there is nothing I can see to adjust through that hole on my 65. The 65 Shop Manual Supplement only covers the telescopic shaft.Hub gap.jpgSteering column hole.jpg

I pulled the shaft and hub and checked all the teeth and the indexing and it all looked right. I used a socket and hammer to seat the hub and that helped. I torqued to 30 lbs. With the spacer I am closer to the .070"-.090" recommended gap in the shop manual. I still have .015" of run-out and may just leave that. Has anyone ever checked their run out off the front of the hub ? It is quiet now and the turn signal function is working fine. Will take it apart to paint it then install it.
