I have a new (not rebuilt) factory replacement power steering valve that was just installed on a 1966 Corvette. The unit leaked immediately once fresh fluid was added (upon turning the steering wheel side to side, front wheels off the ground, engine running). The leak is coming from what appears to be a tiny ball bearing (not sure of the technical name) just beneath the cap that is removed to adjust the valve. No hoses are leaking, no noises, and the steering is very smooth, but the leak is significant.
I notice the ball bearing is slightly recessed into the valve body on the old valve. On the new valve the ball bearing protrudes outside the valve body slightly as if it was never pressed in properly, if it is in fact pressed in.
Is it possible to press the bearing further into the valve body in hopes of stopping the leak, or do I buy another valve and start the process all over again?
Thanks in advance for all comments.
