C2 unusual new power steering valve leak

I have a new (not rebuilt) factory replacement power steering valve that was just installed on a 1966 Corvette. The unit leaked immediately once fresh fluid was added (upon turning the steering wheel side to side, front wheels off the ground, engine running). The leak is coming from what appears to be a tiny ball bearing (not sure of the technical name) just beneath the cap that is removed to adjust the valve. No hoses are leaking, no noises, and the steering is very smooth, but the leak is significant.

I notice the ball bearing is slightly recessed into the valve body on the old valve. On the new valve the ball bearing protrudes outside the valve body slightly as if it was never pressed in properly, if it is in fact pressed in.

Is it possible to press the bearing further into the valve body in hopes of stopping the leak, or do I buy another valve and start the process all over again?

Thanks in advance for all comments.

Send it back to where it came from and ask for a replacement.

    Than start all over again.

Totally agree Joe, unfortunately, although the valve is new in the box it was purchased at least a couple of years ago. Life got in the way and I'm just now getting back to making some overdue car repairs. The removed valve was a rebuilt unit that lasted about 2.5 years before it leaked.

Who currently supplies a quality "new" steering valve that is pressure tested and has a respectable warranty?

      Thanks!

I was also going to recommend Lone Star. This is a part where a quality rebuilt original trumps a new Asian piece.

I say "was also" because after reading about Leif's 12-year old leak free switch, definitely go with his recommended source. I have never encountered a switch that does not leak... they all leak. Even fresh ones. So Leif's supplier has achieved an impossible and never before seen feat in the Corvette world.

Gentlemen, Thanks much. I will contact Lone Star, a 5-year warranty is incredible IMO.
Just curious, does anyone know the purpose of that small ball bearing beneath the valve adjustment cap? Is it pressed in the valve body?
