As stated in the 6th edition NCRS TIMJ Judging Guide -- "factory installed clutch cross shafts were installed with an orange /reddish plastic plug on the underside.
I assume this hole would facilitate a future grease zerk to be added for maintenance of the pivot balls with grease.
THE QUESTION IS : did that hole come pre-threaded for a zerk or would that require a tap to add a zerk??
Thanks all.
UPDATE - Found a past thread with the answer - "The zerk fitting is where the plug was originally installed. Years ago, someone replaced the plug with the zerk fitting for the purpose of easily greasing the ball studs on the ends. This was very common. Greasing the ball studs by filling the cross shaft with grease was and remains the easiest method. It's far from the best method, though. The best method is to remove the cross shaft and grease the ball studs directly."
