Which Hurst mounting adaptor plate do you have. The aluminum adaptor plate 2223 is the one you want to use. The steel Hurst mounting adaptor plate 8008 will locate the shifter 3/4" further to the rear. This will cause interference that was described. You also want to use the front set of mounting holes. These adaptor plates can be used in both locations but will not function with C1s in the rear location.

If you have the stock shifter, I recommend keeping it as the fit is good. If there are issues with it, replacement parts are available.

I was incorrect. The front holes will place the shifter too far forward and hit the front of the hole in the trans tunnel. The front holes work well in a passenger car for clearance with the seat. Use the rear holes and use the 2223 adaptor for a C1.

I am pretty sure I am using the 8008 mouting plate. I will order the other plate and try that one

          Jason,
Unfortunately, I cannot see the mounting configuration on our 56 because the cross member and 62 adapter plate are obstruction the view.
But everything on ours fits fine (but VERY tight) once installed. Yes, the transmission goes in first, then the Hurst mounting plate, then the shifter and linkage.
And yes, getting that top bolt installed is a bit of aa challenge. It just takes time and patience, and SLIGHTLY pushing the rear of the Muncie over to the right just a hair.

Thanks Tom. I was able to get everything installed and the mounting configuration I used was the one the instructions outlined.

I really couldn't see any other way the mounting plate could have been mouny3d to the transmission.
