63-67 Parking Lamp wire harness replacement

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has ever removed/replaced the wire harness on a front C2 parking lamp. The vendors sell a replacement harness, so I suspect there must be a trick to removing and replacing. See pics below. Not sure if the inner bulb receptacle (pic1) is pressed or screwed into the outer socket body (pic 2) or if its just one piece. At the moment, they seem frozen together.

I had planned to use this original lamp, until I noticed a break in the purple wire, so I must either replace the harness or buy an entirely new lamp. The chrome is relatively nice on this original one, so would prefer to try and save it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I purchased a set from Electric Limited a few years ago - I don't recall exactly how I mated the bulb socket to the light fixture but I don't recall it being difficult. This is the item I purchased https://www.lectriclimited.com/front...pair-set-88289

      Thanks Ed,

I'm thinking I might take a cutting wheel to the lamp socket to separate it from the lamp housing. Couldn't use it anyway if I end up damaging it.

Try to use the original harness. We like to see the white, purple, and blue wires in their typical configuration.

            Doug,
Are these for you 63? Or what year, please. Maybe other things to consider, so hold off on cutting.

These are for a 63 convertible I've been working on (and off) for the past 20 years. Retired last year, so I'm making a mad dash to complete it on the next 24 months.
I know the 63 park light harness is unique to 63, so that's another complicating factor. I thought the rubberized hose extends over the actual metal socket. In any case, I don't believe any of the lamps I have are original from the factory. Remarkably, since my original post, I found 2 NOS parking lamps still in the GM boxes I purchased back in 90's.

So here are a few things common to 63 parking lights. As you can see in the pictures 63 had the full boot (covers all brass)
Where the boot ends some had extra sealant at base of boot and socket (TSB 2-1-63)
Early ones had a hole (@ 12:00 in picture) later that was solid.
The hole in the inner fender where 2 different sizes, late and early. (your NOS ones will have the larger hole)
The lens color was much darker.
There was a write up on these not too long ago, just do not recall when.

                  Alan,

Thank you for the pictures - extremely helpful. I was unaware of the darker tint lens on '63's and the hole.
Of the 6 parking lamps I have (4 used, 2 NOS), it does seem that one of the used may have a darker tint lens - or it could be just normal aging.
I will see if I can find the write-up on the '63 parking lamps.

I'm currently doing final body work and test fitting compomnents (headlights, parking lamps, grill & moldings, splash shields, etc) to get ready to put the car in primer this fall.
