AFB 3461S acceptable dates jan built '63

    Hi,
My '63 300HP car was built 3rd week of Jan, engine assembly date Jan 10th.
I need a 3461S AFB, what would be an acceptable date range for the carb for my car, what was the first month for the 3461S?

    Many thanks,
    Paul

Early in 1962. Not sure that matters.

My July car has a build date of 7/20
My engine build date is 7/11
    My 3461S is CG3 ( July, 1963 ) - Same month as the engine.

NCRS judging allows component date codes to be six months prior to vehicle build date, which would be before start of production in your case. From a practical standpoint since the 3461S was common to 300 HP/MT and all 340 HP engines that made up nearly 50 percent of production, inventory turnover was quick.

      My mid-March SWC has a February 3461S.

In your case I don't think a November, December or even January 3461S wouldn't raise any eyebrows. A September date would raise mine, but it's okay per the JG.

High volume components generally have date codes not more that a month or two before vehicle built date. Low volume production components likely average older.

The most likely AFB model you're likely to find is the 372!SB, which was the last AFB that was used in production beginning sometime after '65 start of production, and it was available from GMPD and then the aftermarket for about 20 years.

Thank you Harry and Duke for your detailed replies, appreciated!
I'll keep my eye out for a 3461S dated Nov, Dec or Jan.
