    1960 Accelerator Return Spring Bracket

I have a 1960 Corvette with the base engine, single 4bbl, 230 HP. I've must have searched through the 1960 Assembly Manual a dozen times looking for the return spring bracket. Section 6, sheet 9 of the AM calls out the return spring P/N, but not the bracket. The bracket shown appears to be what I have on my car, but is incorrect for 1960. I believe what I have is a bracket for a '56. The JG, page 190 and 191 show the correct bracket. Where in the AM is the correct bracket shown and P/N?

    Thanks, Pete

    Pete,
I believe that was painted orange at Flint engine plant, so it would be part of the engine assembly and not be broken out in the AIM.

Thanks Mike. Here's a photo of the bracket on my car. Do you know what year Corvette this bracket belongs to? Pete

Pete, Yes, Mike's on it, it was painted orange because it was installed at Flint Engine assembly.

What does the JG show, photo please?

Edit- Yours appears to be non-Corvette. Maybe Pass car or Truck.

Here's a base engine '59 I did some years back. I believe the return bracket to be original.

        Vendors show it as 1956 to 1962E 1X4 . The GM part# was 3729808, 2 are used on 2X4 WCFB, 1 on 1X4 WCFB

The 1960 JG shows the bracket like in your photo. Here's a photo from the JG. Pete

Pete , Ok thanks for the JG photo. That confirms it.

I tried to loosen the thermostat housing bolt because I want to replace the bracket with the correct one. The bolt is not budging and I'm afraid to snap it. Any suggestions?

Pete do you have a battery powered impact driver? That helps.

If not, try to tighten a bit, then loosen. Back and forth. Go easy.

Re: 1960 Accelerator Return Spring Bracket

I don't have a battery powered impact driver; just an air-impact one. I'll try the back and forth tightening/loosening method with a socket as you mentioned.

For the heck of it, I just checked ebay and found a listing by Richard Fortier selling a bracket like the one I have in the photo above. He lists it as a 55-56 Corvette bracket. I must have bought mine from Paragon probably in the 1980's not knowing it wasn't the correct one.

Mike and Rich, Thanks for the help.

I'd try the air gun, lightly back and forth too.

I'll give that a try also.
