Does anyone have any experience pulling a non telescopic steering wheel hub off the shaft? I finished installing the interior in my 65 convertible and caught my pants on the turn signal lever and snapped it off, breaking the plastic signal switch. I already had the steering wheel off so I removed the center nut and washer on the shaft. The repair manuals I referenced calls for a puller tool #J-2927. The two fine threaded holes in the hub are an odd thread. Larger than an 1/4 28 UNF and smaller then a 5/16 24 UNF thread. I couldn't believe in my wildest dreams they were metric but I tried an 8MM which was the closest to no avail. I would hate to drill and tap them to the larger 5/16 but I'm running out of options. Any ideas brothers? Also, There is a machined match mark on the outboard end of the hub and the outboard end of the step on the shaft where the two splines fit together. I assume these two match marks should line up and that is how your steering wheel is straight. This one is approx. 2 teeth off. Should these line up at reassembly?
