67 Conv. under deck lid lighting

I am restoring my 67 Convertible. I found that the wiring under my rear deck lid to the light socket/bulb was cut at some point during the life of the car. This wire was cut at the socket and is not visible to trace. This wire is part of the rear wire harness.
The carpet was replaced at some point and I believe that is when the wire was cut and removed.
I am trying to understand why someone would cut the wire? I am also trying to figure out how to repair the problem without replacing the entire rear wiring harness.
Any experience or recommendations for dealing with the issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gene

Re: 67 Conv. under deck lid lighting

I'm in the process of replacing the carpet in my 67 convertible. Here are a couple pictures that show the wiring.

I would recommend pulling the carpet back on top of the wheel well to get to the rear harness. As you can see in my pictures the wiring to the deck lid light split out of the harness and then is routed to the socket. The orange wire is the 'hot' wire and the white wire if from the courtesy light switches at the doors.

If the wiring was removed all the way back to where it comes out of the rear harness, I would splice back in and wire back to the socket. You can get separate orange and white wiring at most NAPAs and probably other FLAPS.

I have no idea why someone would cut and remove the wire unless they damage something during the carpet install and decided they just didn't need that courtesy light.
