Original vs. Repro C2 Oil Canister

I came across a C2 Oil canister and can not tell if it's original or not. I searched the archives for almost an hour looking for measurement on both, no luck

Anyway, anyone know the metal thickness of the original vs. a repro.

    Thank you

Somewhat of a coarse measurement for you Harry, but should be sufficient for your purpose. The original to the car can on my '60 has 3/32" (.09375)+ - thick walls. *I can't comment on the reproductions.

I have both original and repo. I am not home so i can't measure it. But i recall the repo is probably half the thickness of the original. the repo tend to leak.

Bruce, I agree. If I have an original I'll restore it. If I have a repro I'll recycle it. If you could measure yours that would be great. Thanks

Just got a call, original thickness .1100 with paint. Repro .890.

The one I have is .1070 with thin worn paint, looks like I have an original.

          Thanks All

Thank you Frank Dreano for sending the oil canister. I decided to take another approach instead of a push washer. I used a pipe cutter, the one plumbers use to cut copper pipe. I used the measurement I gatherer and cut a ring into the canister bolt, not too deep. I then took my Dremel and made the cut wider. Took a new crush washer for fit then installed a 1/2 retainer ring. As soon as I find the bell, spring, metal washer and rubber washer I'll put it back together.

              Nicely done Harry!....
If decide to do mine, instead of using a Dremel I'll attempt
forming the ring using a drill press. (poor mans lathe)
Definitely would try first on an ordinary bolt though!
Looking forward to photos of the completed project.
              Cheers

I found this online, instructive to help rebuild your canister.
