1962 water temp. sender wire end

I have a 1962, 300H.P. with the flat thermostat housing. There is interference between the radiator hose and the temperature sender wire end with the plastic shield over the wire end. I have tried a new repro. thermostat housing. The sender is the same length as several others I have. The other senders in the manifold have the same clearance problem. I cannot tighten the sender any more than I have.

Is it correct to have the plastic shield over the wire end?

    Thank you,

    Ken

Ken, Yes there is a plastic insulating plug on all harness temp sender wires.

It's a very tight placement under the housing.

Can you get a few photos and measure the height of the housing. It's possible the housing has been "over" machined at some point to resurface pitting, making the space even tighter.

Edit, Here's a 63 300HP showing how tight it is. I don't have any measurements as the car is gone but it may give you a few ideas.

Ken, clearance is definitely tight. Have you tried repositioning the upper radiator hose on the thermostat housing to see if any clearance can be gained? Also the connection seems to be directly underneath where the clamp goes over the hose. Another thought is just tightening the clamp should/could increase the clearance. Good luck! Frank
