Biden was on Leno's Garage recently. Did anyone else catch the fact that he had passenger car center caps no "Disc Brakes" on them??. Guess his restorer cut some corners or was not up to speed on 67 correctness

On a related note:
Have we (NCRS) ever made a concerted effort to recruit celebrity members?
True, they may be reluctant to attend meets.
Is Jay Leno a member? Why not? He has plenty of vintage Corvettes. Who's tried recruiting him?
Brad Whitford (Aerosmith) has, or had at least, a '67, now listed at ProTeam.
Reggie Jackson? Brian Wilson? Clarence Thomas? Ted Nugent?
Recruiting Rick Allen might be a stretch, given his experience with the marque...

Celebrities rarely bring anything positive to anything. Most would be mechanically challenged pretty-boys or girls. On top of that, they have dozens of hanger-ons that pick and choose what they can and cannot do. They could just join like anyone else if they wanted to.

Tom we all need opinions they are like ......... everyone has one. But at bear mountain in NY there is a big show every Wednesday. While not big celebrities the guys from OCC would be walking around. Paul senior you could see a mile away 6 people biker gear he was always pleasant and the kids loved him. One day i am sitting by my 65 and a guy walks up with his girlfriend or wife and says hey nice car. When i thanked him i said are you Paul Jr. he said yes and smiled and walked away. No one knew who he was.

The Winter 2018 issue of The Restorer has an article by Mike McCloskey restoring Jay's '63 Fuelie coupe, so I imagine Jay is an NCRS member although he may be using some other name. He gets to as many of the shows as he can. This was at the GM show at Woodley Park in Van Nuys a few years back. He showed up in the GM developed EcoJet car.

At 2013 Bowling Green NCM Regional, there was this black Naber Bros restored '67.
It had two caps with "Disc Brakes" lettering and two without - though you can't see that here.

One albeit a minor celebrity who was a good wrench was John (Jay) Geils of The J.Geils band. We first met as Freshmen at Northeastern U. In 1964. He was driving a 59 Bug Eye Sprite then. He never owned a Corvette but was into Italian cars and owned several and vintage raced them. In the 1980’s he founded KTR Motorsports which initially specialized in mechanical restoration of vintage Ferraris with Jay doing a lot of the work. He sold it after a while and they still are big in vintage racing support. I even saw a 1968 Corvette in the shop the last time I was there.

Back in 2009 Reggie Jackson opened his car collection to the NCRS road tour that was headed to the NCRS national convention in San Jose. He had a nice replica of the World Series trophy in his garage along with a variety of Corvettes and other cars.

Years ago he & I were on the stage side by side in Auburn at the Kruse Auction bidding on a Corvette. Didnt know it till i turned sidewise to see the other bidder. I Quit bidding & he ended up with the Corvette. We talked a bit seemed like a nice guy.
