    C3 Windshield Frame Repair

When I removed the windshield from the '71 I am working on, had quite a bit of corrosion on the windshield frame. Obviously the windshield had leaked at some point for some time.

New top chord and top corner pieces are available but I am concerned about getting everything aligned again. Looking for suggestions on the best method to repair. Could cut out and and weld in filler pieces since overall structure is still solid or just use new top chord and corners which are available but risk alignment issues.

Also does anyone have experience with any filler material for the surface corroded areas which will be under the windshield.

    See pictures.

    Thanks Joe

If it were mine & the rest of the frame is OK & the glass fits fine I would be inclined to stop the rust & fill the rusted parts with resin.

As with any rust repair, it's always best to cut out the rot and graft in new metal. Try to take apart the factory seam. Then close up the repair mending/replicating the factory seams.

Be sure to use weld primer and coat the inner structures with a sealer to prevent rot recurrence. (Eastwood makes frame coatings & weld primer)

Measure 10x cut once. Take detailed pictures.
Tack it in and verify the measurements again. Verify top to bottom then measure for square(before and after).

Dry fit the windshield. Remember to account room for the calk, trim clips, and the trim itself.

Dry fit ALL of it when done before any finished work.

Similar kind of rust on my 1980. What do your #2 body mounts look like? Mine had serious rust issues.

Problem is, header rot allows water to run down on top of #2 - with no where to drain off.

PM me and we'll set up a time to talk. We would wear out a couple of keyboards typing this stuff.
