    Drive Shaft Spline Lubrication

I'm getting ready to reinstall the differential in my '65. When I go to install the drive shaft back into the transmission prior to putting the differential in place, I'm curious what others have used or recomment as lubricartion for the drive shaft yoke spines and the yoke to transmission seal surface. I was thinking of just pouring in some gear oil into the yoke and then pouring out the excess and coating the yoke surface with the gear oil also.

Maybe I've answerd my own question?

    Thanks,

    James

I used a light coating of Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease (red stuff) and a very light coating of gear oil. Obvious concern is contaminating the clutch pad. Did the same on the thrust bearing shaft and clutch fork contact areas. Install was easy and the fork glides with no binds

As above...then just coat the seal with gear oil. If you coat the whole yoke, the seal will basically wipe it off as you slide the yoke in and make a mess. Assuming you didn't change the tailhousing bushing, it should still have an oil film.
