    Re: Question about judging

    Hey Anthony,
    Welcome to the hobby!
Manual lists the retainers as a black phosphate finish. Yours seem pretty bright; however,
the manual's photo also shows retainers to be brighter than the "black phosphate" wording suggests.
The insulation's cut and other attributes seem to be TFP (typical factory production).

          Anthony,
Yes, your hood Insulation is correct, and in great like new condition. Consider yourself very lucky to have one in that condition. These molded pads were correct for 73-75 hoods. All reproductions sold for these cars is just a flat piece of Fiberglass without the molded impressions. As for the retainers...I agree with Brian that black phosphate might not be the correct term, however, they were darker in appearance on some of the cars we looked at for the 73-74 revision and 75-77 revision and also lighter like yours. You should be fine with that pad

I redid some for a 1975 in zinc phosphate, and they look very correct compared to the original finish. This would be a lighter color, like what is shown in the photos.

Earlier years might be manganese phosphate, which is darker.
