54 6cyl torque converter mounting to flywheel

Am I wrong to assume the torque converter attachment brackets that mount 6 places on the face of the converter be in a flat plane so they will mate to the flywheel plate? My brackets are at a slight angle away from the centerline of the converter. This means that if the bolts are tightened down fully, the flywheel becomes distorted at each mounting hole.

Thanks Tony. Noticed you only have 3 brackets whereas I have 6. Could you possibly take a photo from the side to see if there is any angle to the brackets?

I am on a trip to see my daughter this weekend but can when I get back. In the meantime I will look through my other photos. Also, there are a few 53-5 folks on here that might know.

I have a photo of the flexplate and it sure doesn’t LOOK distorted at the attachment points. There is one attachment point at about 4:00 or 5:00 in the photo where , given the lighting, I think any deformation would be visible. As an aside to this thread perhaps someone can tell me if I should have six of the attachments.

            Tony
Yours is a passenger car and or truck fly wheel
            Same for the OP
            Corvette flywheel looks like this.....s-l500.jpg
Here is my experience the passenger car and truck are larger in diameter
            The Corvette is smaller
I will measure them tomorrow - I have several in the shop
The larger fly wheel will have problems with the starter
            It will not engage !
The passenger car / truck starter is different
I will post up a photo of the two

This is an engine I did for 1954 #21 - Real deal - note the starter (starter and solenoid are Correct)

This is another engine I did and it is a truck engine
              136774.jpg
Note the starter angle and position - see how the solenoid is tilted

              Hope this helps

Chris, Thanks for the photos of the flywheel. I have the one with the cutouts. Getting back to the problem of the Torque converter mounting brackets, If you place a straight edge across them, are they flat or do they show some angle NOT parallel to the face of the converter?
