Looks like the alternator on my 1966 427-425 Corvette has finally died. Replacement alternators come with a smaller pully than on the original. If I recall the high performance (reeving) engines had a larger pully. Does one just buy what is available and then swap the pullies out. Does it turn into PIA job or is it relatively simple?

Re: Alternator pully size
Ted - if the existing alternator on your 66 L72 is the original #1100696, you could have it rebuilt but if you do go with a remanufactured alternator, it's an easy thing to get the existing pulley off your current alternator and swap it onto the remain alternator.
I did that recently on my 66 L72, the alternator on there had been rebuilt by John Pirkle many moons ago and it just died.
In the interest of time, I 'borrowed' one from my project 65 L78 and swapped on the pulley from the L72 alternator.
I typically use an air driven impact wrench to remove the large nut up front. If you don't have access to an impact wrench, a hex wrench to hold the shaft and a large crescent wrench will do.
I'm going to send you a PM regarding your L72.

For '64 - '67 all alternators that did NOT have an integral pulley used the same alternator fan. I don't have a part number as the alternator came to the factory as a complete assembly. Picture below of what you want for a pulley.
