Stuck Fresh Air Pull Cable on Drivers Side For 1966 Corvettes

Noticed my Drivers Side Air Pull Cable is Stuck. Won't open the Air Vent even with
modest force. Any ideas to get it working? Perhaps some WD-40 to apply? What would
cause this? Passenger Sides works with modest force. Thanks in Advance. Larry
P.S. Trying to get everything working for the "Operations Test" for Judging

Disconnect the cable from under the dash - move the cable around to break loose any binding that might be going on inside the sheathing - get the cable straight as possible - try exercising it then. If it still doesn't move you may have to remove it.

      Larry,

Kroil Oil is the best penetrating oil.

Follows Ed's sage advice to remove the cable from the vent door. Put lots of towels down. Squirt Kroil Oil in both ends. Let it set for a couple of hours. Repeat. Then try to move cable. With knob pulled out. repeat spraying both ends.

I can vouch for the KROIL. I used it on my '65 rear blower motor control cable and it free'd it up. I disconnected it from the rear motor switch and held the end up ouside the car and dripped the KROIL into the cable over several days. It works like a new one.

A good way to ensure the cable is well lubed is to remove it from the car and hang it vertically and let the oil drip down and exercise it till it frees up. Works for all the cables.

Update on the above>Have used(Fluid Film)did not have Kroil Oil handy. Have gotten it to move about 25% then
stops. Will continue to soak the cable. Question>My Driver Side Pull Knob is angled towards the Driver Door. AIM shows both
pull knobs coming out straight. Who is correct?? Don't see where the Pull Bracket was bent in the past. Anybody??
Thanks?Larry P.S. Passenger Side Pull Knob comes out straight.

OK; after looking at some old post here it looks normal to have the angle on the D/S Pull Knob. BTW
I do have that special odd clip in the line that connects the Air Pull Cable with the Hood Release Cable.
              Thanks>Larry

As I recall on my 65, the D/S cable bracket just rotates with age. Sort of a gradual twist over time. You can't bend it back straight either.

Larry, my friends 63 was the same, we removed cable and found that the was a slight bend at the handle when this happens there is a bind. As we work working the cable out of car you could see the housing moving around, we were able to bend the inside cable to get to work freely. Take some patience.

Thanks for all the responses. I suppose every car is just a little different but mine with that
Pull knob facing the D/S Door; the cable has to make a "Horrendous Turn"(About 100 Decrees)
to get back to the Vent. Will see if I can reduce the angle somewhat to help it out. Larry
P.S. A poor design for sure.

both my 64 and 65 (former) have the left vent knob facing towards the door, and "horrendous turn" over 90 degrees going to the vent. The cable works just fine, with lubrication.. I don't believe it can be nor need be shortened.

Update>Working OK now. Unscrewed the bracket and let it hand down and found out it worked.
I also reduced the angle of
                        the cable somewhat.
                        Added some
"Fluid Film" to soak the cable and now working with everything back in place. Thanks again for the
                        idea's. Larry
