1963 340hp oil gauge and tube

My 1963 340hp oil gauge will not fit the reproduction tube.
Could some one measure their tube opening so I can determine if it is the tube or gauge?
I have my suspicions but the facts are the facts.
An earlier, not so correct, gauge fit perfectly.

It doesn't look that much different from mine where the bowed spring steel provides the friction to keep the 'gauge' tight in the tube. It may take a little persuading to get it in all the way but it should become easier as it gets broken in.

Good advice.
I rounded the corners slightly and i can get it in and out now.
I see why so many are missing/broken.
Still pulls hard but it is manageable.
