    Rally Red Lacquer

I am looking for a quarter of the rally red lacquer for my 67 corvette. The restoration is 20 yrs old and in fantastic condition, however since I am too particular, there are a few non visible minor areas I would to have touched up and so a quart should do it. Does anyone out there have, or know where I could get, the rally red in lacquer?

I can tell you from experience that the rally red from TCP mixed from the code is a poor match, it has too much violet. Send them a sample like a headlamp door and they will custom match it to your car.

Lately I have had the color mixed at my local finish masters HAD them leave out ALL of the modern binders and then added the contents to LACQUER CLEAR COAT. Works wonderfully, when I told finish masters what I was doing they stated no warranties but it was a brilliant idea.

If you search eBay for PPG Rally Red lacquer paint there is some for sale. The seller only wants $1,200 per quart!!!

            Don,

Look at the bright side. That $1,200 cost per quart translates to only $7.50 per teaspoon.

You should contact Tom Ames or John Ballard, they know everything about this paint.

You can still purchase lacquer in the town I live in.
I could get a price for you.
I know it will be expensive but likely less than the $1200 on Fleece bay.
Color match may be an issue?

                  Rick,

Lacquer is not that hard to find. The issue is that the current lacquer has different chemicals than the old lacquer. TCP Global (in California no less) sells the new lacquer for $190 per quart. The TCP lacquer is probably similar in composition to the lacquer available in your town. The eBay seller, with quarts for $1200, supposedly has the old composition lacquer, which contains the chemicals that the EPA now bans in modern lacquers.

Funny seeing this a year later and the comentary

Hibernia when the real OEM was discontinued in 1
                    2018 was 4000$ a gallon

                    so you want a quart

                    let me tell you…

To buy the components cost $900 a quart then you have to park a company to accurately weigh these components

                    is that free?

                    haz Mat shipping $75 and that’s a 2023 number
                    is that free?

Then you know eBay charges 15% on the taxed amount of the sale

                    is that free?

I do have all the oem rally red one would need to do three cars, maybe more

I also have the oem color chip used to ensure cars get painted to standard

Interesting fact Ted’s are the most expensive color and don’t cover as well
OEM paints to this day approach four digits

I have a quart dated 9/15 /95 that I would sale to you for 500 +shipping. The paint is dupont lucite that has been in the house all these years. The can looks rough but the paint looks good. I need to mix it. I have been rebuilding cars since the sixtys.I have 2 gallon for my 63 split window. It is an early car that GM had to rework just to sell. I replaced every panel but the floor pan. It now has all GM parts. Some of the panels are real nos made back in1963. The frame work in the body is perfect.

                            Thomas,

The Technical DB is not a forum for selling. Place an ad in the classified section of the NCRS website if you want to sell something, or do likewise on the Corvette Forum.
