Gary, I use a permatex pipe thread sealant for the intake bolts, you will want to clean out the threads in the head and bolt (s). If you leave behind any oil it will not seal properly. I believe the valve covers had a special coating that had a silver color. You may have to do some research to find out if anyone makes a spray can that can duplicate the coating.

Search this forum for threads recommending paint color, type and application methods for the valve covers. I haven't done it, but powder coating is a recommended method IIRC.
They were originally silver.
