1954 Corvette, 283, 097 solid cam, 4spd, dual point distributor no vacuum adv. Dual carburetors. No Hotrod stuff. Front carb is from a Chrysler, rear carb is a Chevrolet from a 348.
I’ve got 1500-1800 miles on the restoration/rebuild and the car ran like a champ. I run/drive the car weekly, starts right up every time.
I started it the other day, it ran at 1500rpm with choke and when I bumped off the choke, rpm’s increased to 2000-2500. I couldn’t get it any lower.
I put a towel over front carb and there was no change in rpm. Put the towel over rear carb and engine rpm decreased. So, I’m assuming, it’s a problem with the rear carb. Tried carb cleaner around all gaskets and
linkage, no change. I disassembled the carb and everything looked new, like it was 1500 miles ago, gaskets look new, floats were right on and the pump worked freely, secondaries closed properly and no binding linkage, no cracks or chips, cleaned and blew it out. I checked the PCV and it is working properly. I still had the high idle.
What have I over looked? Can’t be that difficult. Car ran great one day and then this problem the next day.
Thanks for your advice.
