3rd belt, water pump tp crank

A white '65 SB lost a point today for a missing 3rd belt water pump to crank., 250 or 300 engine. No way to adjust or install a belt without an idler. If this car came without an idler pully should he have lost a point?

I would think he would have to prove the car came without the pully

The 250 hp and 300 hp engines did not come with an idler assembly.

Believe all engines came with the Jesus belt with no adjustment. You need the correct diameter belt

The base and 300 hp engines only had one belt. The rest of the SB's had 2 with an idler assembly. Only the big block had the "Jesus" belt. I came up with way more descriptive words when installing it.

            All------

1965 250 and 300 hp small blocks were originally equipped with balancer pulley GM #3744043 and waterpump pulley GM #3790356. Both of these pulleys are 2 groove pulleys. One groove was, of course, used to drive the alternator. For cars without C-60 and/or N-40, the other groove had to be either unused or used for a captive belt. I don't know which.

I concur that no 250 or 300 hp was equipped with an idler pulley.

Simple answer is that while 63-65 250 and 300 hp had two groove pulleys on the crank and water pump, if no A/C or P/S, they only came equipped with a single belt. AIM shows only a single belt. Parts catalog look up yields only one belt. Pics in Corvette Restoration vol.2 confirm. The unused pulley groove does look incomplete but I'm convinced the came that way.

After all these years, you would think you midyear guys would have already figured out which belts to use.
