    1979 GOODYEAR tires

Question what blackwall GOODYEAR tires are NCRS thinking owners putting on the 1979
cars. I see the Kelsey Tire repros and love them BUT $475 ea is a bit steep (for my wallet ). The JM says use a similar tread and size GOODYEAR Tire, and I see the GOODYEAR ASSURANCE comes in the size 225 70 R15 and arent too far from the Polysteel original design but they are RATED AS A TRAILER TIRES ????????????? Thanks for any suggestions (my originals have over 30,000 miles on them)

The only Goodyear tire I see in that size is the ROWL Wrangler, listed as an all-season highway tire: https://www.goodyear.com/en-US/tires/wrangler-sr-a

Dave, understand NCRS the organization does not recommend service replacements by brand...only describes the original configuration. The Judging Reference Manual lists standard deductions for service replacements. For non-OEM brand, the JRM lists a 75% deduction and a 100% "for incorrect size or those with white letters mounted inboard or outboard."

The Assurance tires would probably accompany a 30% originality deduction, which I believe is the Wrangler MJ refers to above.

Tom Russo, THANK YOU I was stuck on "OEM" not looking at the points/deduction assigned (NOW I SEE), and now I can base my search on "configuration" be it Goodyear or Yokohama as long as my sidewall specs, size, and tread pattern do not differ from the factory original. And Michael Johnson. THANK YOU for taking the time to assist me .
I will chime back in with what I come up with, David

For closure to anyone in my situation in the future reading archives I had decided to go with the Kelsey EXACT reproduction tire (very impressive quality tires) https://kelseytire.com/performance-g...eel-rwl-small/ ,but DUE TO THE CURRENT SUPPLY CHAIN SHORTAGES in America Kelsey Tire can't get rubber to make them! I did wait for a rubber delivery over 4 months to get to Kelsey to make my 4 tires but want to use the car. So I went with the Mickey Thompson Sportsman-s-t-radial-tires P225-70-r15 which actually meet configuration, and LOOK NICE on the car. Good luck to all our Reproduction Companies we take for granted staying in business with such shortages (Kelsey said they didnt think they could get rubber till late fall, and I wanted to buy in early SPRING
