This car was at the 2021 Lone Star Regional this past October. Quite a treat to see it in person. The sale number should be impressive.

Prediction>You will not even see a little of this car on TV with Mecum. Do you remember this car>
1966 Chevrolet Corvette Pilot Line L88 | S237 | Kissimmee 2022>No coverage to be seen. Bid was 7 figures!

Mecum just does not cover the Super High Price Chevrolet's like they do with Shelby's/Cobra's/Boss 429's

1st they will have a commercial going for the 1st half of the presentation then they will be talking about the car
that just left the bidding stage while they (The Blonde and Heavy Set guy will be slamming the hood down) and of
course the camera guy will be nowhere to be found. Been There/Seen This Movie before.>Larry

Mecum had this car on display at their Houston auction last month. It looks every bit as good in person as it does in the pictures.

No the Mecum chandelier bids quickly took it up to $575K, but then just as quickly it went to The Bid Goes On. No way to tell how many of those quick bids were real.

Re: Very Cool '65 Coming Up For Auction

I think a lot of these car auctions are based on the Greater Fool Theory. Recall the late nineties internet stock bubble. Many buyers recognized that valuing a stock based on the number of hits their Web site got, especially when their business model/plan was little more than a pipe dream is irrational, but as long as there is a greater fool to pay more than I did... why not?

I'm surprised this car got as high as it did, and there may be no more greater fools.

I read something recently about the "last '67 convertible" going to auction. Clearly this car is being hyped, but my question is why would anyone pay more for this car than one similarly equipped in equal condition that was built a month earlier? Or six months earlier?

Not me, but maybe a greater fool.

I always look at values for these cars in terms of rarity and desirability. To get me to spend big bucks, I want both. The rarity can be objectively determined, desirability is very subjective and thus the factor that drives big differences in what people will pay, IMO.

For me personally, I like a car with history and A story, not just rarity and sexy options. This car has both that’s what attracted it to me. Give me a Worn out base model car with history and a story any day over a brand new restoration of an identical with no story or history.

Remember when Pro Team sold the 390 67 coupe that Bill Moak found at the BJ auction. Dont understand why anyone would pay a big premium for a Corvette like that or one owned by someone famous. Well maybe Joe B's 67 convertible. No wait not even his because of the price of gas now.
