    C2 Oil Filter Canister

Have a leak from the securement bolt on my '66 oil filter canister. In the past I have been able to purchase a rebuild kit, however I am unable to find a source for the rebuild parts. Multiple vendors offer canisters, so the parts must be out there.

Does anyone know a source for these parts? Primarily the inside locking clip (which always breaks on disassembly) and the outside copper washer.

LICS used to carry. Try Zip now.

Copper washers should be available at auto stores, check in oil department as they are used for various pan plug gaskets. For the locking clip, my restorer had a small thin groove cut into the long bolt when the can was apart. He then used an external/removeable snap ring as a retainer. A nice touch.

      Thx Larry.
It would seem ZIP doesn't offer the rebuild kits anymore. The snap ring would seem to be a good solution. Securement of the bolt, cone, and spring are my concern as setting metal loose in the oil system is something I am trying to avoid.

, oil filter cartridge comes with the filter and upper rubber O'ring, the rebuild kit comes with only a lock clip and small rubber washer and a copper washer , the bottom crush copper washer is the one that leaks, i rebuild mine with out a kit i match up the cooper and rubber washer and reuse the steel washer and you can save the clip.

Is the cup normally reusable? I have the same issue with leak. I can't visualize the snap ring arrangement. Any type of photo?

Who currently will do a restoration? Parargon told me they send them out as one shipment-could take months

Cup is reusable. It is stamped steel. The snap ring I mentioned is the same concept as the retainer clip (d) shown above........except that it is an "external" snap ring that is easily removable with the proper snap-ring pliers. See pics of external snap ring on the internet....and available at any local hardware store.

Ken Hansen from OrinDales in Tennessee did my restoration many years ago.

Ken said he doesn't do them any more. Didn't have a specific suggestion

Is a new spring likely needed also?
