Looking for advice or cautions for sending 66 radio for repair. AM side went silent last week, FM still plays. Where would you send your radio, or care to share your experience getting radio repair. Thanks!

Re: Good place for radio repair?
Agree with Mike above. Robert (Pacini) in Utica has my '72 stereo unit at the moment. Be aware that he's working at about 4-5 months out because he's frequently recommended! He will ask about any upgrades and modifications you are seeking (like bluetooth and other newfangled geegaws) as well as doing a cosmetic and stock restoration. Cost estimate was quite reasonable.- Top

Re: Good place for radio repair?
I always get roasted for this but you can put modern internals (splid state) in the original case and not worry about repairs basically forever.
Gary Tayman out of Florida can do the conversion and it will pass flight judging but prob not a PV (there is no "warn up" period).- Top

Re: Good place for radio repair?
Thanks for all of the referrals. I called each one for estimate of repair and time they would have the radio. Dollar estimates ranged by several hundred dollars and the time involved had a range of months. Gary Tayman only wanted to do the conversion route according to his website and my preference was to repair the Delco unit. Robert at Precision has yet to return my call but several months to repair was too long for my schedule. The phone contact of one of the suggestions was no longer in service. Radio is on the way to Ford and Garland as this is written as his estimate of repair and time involved were both within reason. He seemed interested in the work and has a couple of 63 Vettes of his own. I want to thank each of you for taking the time to respond to my question and look forward to having a working radio again. As you might guess there was a "while you are this close" job to do - repair the clock. It is happily running again! Your help was much appreciated.- Top

Re: Good place for radio repair?
I highly recommend Robert Pacini. He restored the AM-FM Delco radio from my '65 Riviera. He did a great job. He fixed the pre-set buttons that weren't working right. He enhanced the amplifier and installed a mini-jack output so I can connect an MP3 player to the radio. He provided a mini-jack cable with a retractable end which I ran up under the center console, terminating in the console compartment so it's all invisible when the lid is down. The radio works great!- Top
