FYI... Installing Antenna Cable, a 63

I needed to replace the antenna cable as the male end that goes into the radio broke. The interior work was easy:
    • remove sill plate
    • remove kick panel
    • remove seat
    • pull back carpet
    • remove cable cover
    • unclip cable from clips on Z-bar
    • gently remove cable to back of car, this is a convertible.

The exterior was a different story
    • remove exhaust extensions
    • remove 63 rear heat shield
    • remove rear license light & bezel
    • remove rear valance
    • remove rear muffler hanger bolts
    • move muffler to the right
    • unscrew antenna
    • cut grommet off as it was hard as a rock & remove old antenna cable
    • run new antenna cable through the hole
    • Oops - I noticed the antenna ground was not attached at the antenna, how did this happen?
    • remove left side muffler and pipe

Now I fixed the ground and attached the antenna cable to the antenna. Just waiting for the new grommet to arrive then reverse the process.

I don't mind working on the car, but this was just too many steps. Only needed three Band-Aids!

    Harry,

One thing that regularly slows up my restoration progress is waiting for hand wounds and badly damaged finger nail beds to heal.

When I was detailing my split window chassis and looked up with a flashlight to see the antenna mount on the left rear fender I thanked my lucky starts I didn't have to mess with it.

The new grommet arrived today. Looks like I need to put a slice in it to let the rear harness in and the antenna cable. I do not feel like removing the harness just to run it through the grommet.

Slice it, put it on and reattach with some good cynoacrylic glue and nobody will ever know

Harry, While I was looking through some '67 photos I found some of the original grommet at the rear bulkhead for the antenna cable and rear harness. It's the same part for all midyears..... 3784177.

As you can see it's split for each cable, likely a requirement for ease of harness and antenna cable assembly.

Thanks, I sliced it, added some dish soap on the outside and it installed easily. Then I spent the next few hours installing everything else. Only hit my head on the bottom of the rear bumper 5 times.
