63 AM/FM Radio Antenna Cable - My Bad

I moved the radio out of the way on my 63 so I could reinstall the clock. When I went to put the antenna cable back in the AM/FM radio, the male end was broken, oops. I need to replace the antenna cable. In my box of parts I have an antenna cable marked as 63 original. It's solid at both ends.

I looked in the archives without luck. Is there a way to test the cable before I pull the car apart? I put it in the radio and attached a repro antenna, seemed to work ok.

    Thanks

Harry you can run cable on the outside of car and plug in to the cars antenna.you may have to drop rear muffler down, hopefully exhaust tip will come out.

Other than a simple continuity check with an ohm meter, that is certainly a "good morning" check. But running an antenna through all the car's wickets to install could induce problems but you'll prob just have to "go for it".

Frankly, I remove the glove box liner to install/remove the dash clock....

Tried that, I could not get my hand near the left side to install the clip.

Harry, You may want to look at Corvette Central part #162002. At the bottom of the page it says Do not Pass any current through the cable as it contains aseries capacitor that you may short out

Never heard that bedore. Which would negate passing the ohm meter current thru it. Understand about reaching the clock clips via the glove box. I forget that I have monkey arms and proctologist fingers.

. I can reach most anywhere.

I'll use Ed's suggestion. I run the antenna wire from the radio (outside the car) to the antenna. Simple enough!

All of the antenna cables have a capacitor in series with the center lead, iirc one at each end, so a continuity test will always read open.

I'm unsure of capacitor value but a capacitance test meter would confirm.

Harry, the problem of replacing the cable will be the necessity to remove the carpeting over the left rear wheelwell, but you may be able to sneak it in there by carefully lifting that separate piece a bit.

Too bad, I was in your area yesterday on the way to Kennebunkport, Maine. I'd have stopped by to help under the dash.

Rich, thanks, would have been good to see you again. I've replaced the cable in other cars in the past. Just looking to test the one in my parts box.

                    Cheers

Harry;Little off the topic but unless the 63 is a lot different than the 66 not sure why you would remove the radio to R & R
the clock? I did the R&R Clock deal this Spring and the radio was not a factor in doing this; but what do I know? Larry
