    66 Fuel pump mounting plate

Just completed the fuel pump rebuild for my "66 L79. What is the finish on the fuel pump mounting plate?

    Tim,

I would say it would have been mounted on the engine at the time of assembly and before paint, so engine orange would be appropriate.

Re: 66 Fuel pump mounting plate

      Guys,

I don't know the answer to the finish on the plate, but the document listed below by John Hinckley states the following on page 14 discussing the "Engine Dress Line" at St. Louis:

"Install fuel pump pushrod, mounting plate, and fuel pump"

So apparently the plate was not on (don't know how it could be held in place w/o the pump anyhow) at the engine plant when they were painted...

this article and many others are located in Restoration Database sticky post at the top of the page https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...tion-Documents
      thx,
      Mark

Tim, I have momentarily misplaced my 66 Judging guide, however, the 63-4, 65 & 67 Guides do not address this plate when describing the fuel pumps and attaching hardware. It has always been my opinion that they should be natural steel with the lower bolts or screws plated cad or zinc.

Thanks to all the replies. Bare metal it is.

I can also confirm the fuel pump mounting plate was bare steel. It will rust. My recommendation if one wants to avoid the rust, spray the plate with a satin clear.

                Joe -
That's exactly what I did today!
                Thanks, Tim
