65 Coupe Restoration red interior paint

What is the color code for the 65 red interior paint? I like Rustoleum enamel and they make five different shades of red from gloss to satin in various shades.

I would NEVER suggest Rustoleum for interior paint, it takes for ever to dry and is enamel. Try some other popular brands, low gloss, match the dash and some of the interior panels, it should all blend together

        Dave,

The summer 1989 NCRS spec guide lists the following for 1965 interior red "3-Gloss"
        • Dupont 9188-L
        • Ditzler DL 71497

I'll betcha west penn laco could mix some up for you, too (they did for me - but that was 20 years ago)

West Penn Laco is Western Pennsylvania’s most trusted source for automotive refinishing, welding and industrial gas needs. Visit us.

              Dave,

If you look at page 2 of the link to the PPG/Ditzler document that Jack provides, I think you’ll find the “3” refers to 3%, low gloss. For example, the Ditzler code for full gloss rally red is 71491. The code for 3%, low gloss is 71497. I assume 71497 is the same as 71491 with fiatener added.

i just called West Penn Laco and they don’t have lacquer anymore. They can do acrylic (enamel).

I’ve searched high and low for a shop that can get lacquer and who can custom mix and put it in a rattle can. I got exactly that from Tower Paint in Wisconsin in 2016, but they went out of business and all the shops that custom mix and put in rattle cans that I’ve been calling recently say they cant’t get lacquer.

                    Guys,

I guess I was out of the loop for a while here...

I'm guessing I bought my 1-pint (or was it a half-pint?) can of Elkhart Blue (real lacquer) back in in 1999 (or so?).

I could not believe how expensive it was at the time, but I didn't care - I was not repainting my entire car - just trying to touch up here and there.

I need to go find that tiny little can and make sure he's safe and sound for the future, eh?
                    thx,
                    Mark
