    Fuel for '70 LT-1

Just purchased a '70 LT-1 and would like to know if 100LL fuel will work well. I found a regional airport willing to sell it as long as I fill up in a container.

In short.....yes. you would probably get away with mixing pump premium along with it

Thanks Tim! Its only $4.30/gal so I will probably run it straight. This is also a car that I won't drive much. I know some guys that mix 110 octane with pump gas. I just wasn't sure if the low lead fuel was appropriate for the high compression engine.

Have you tried using pump premium---91 or 93 octane? If that runs without significant detonation, that's all you need. Higher octane won't be better.

I run 91 octane in my LT1, but do mix in approximately 5% 110 octane on each fill-up. For me, it really helped to minimize detonation.

just a note, 110 is selling for plus $8.00/gallon here in AZ.

Keith:Ran the 100LL in my Original 70 LT-1 Camaro Z28 with great results. Once you use this gas YOU WILL NOT GO BACK TO
ANYTHING ELSE. Nothing else will come close. Also will not deteriorate as fast as pump gas. JMHO Larry

At the moment I'm running 112 leaded with sunoco ultra 93. 50/50 in my 70 LT-1. Primarily sorting running issues, so I wanted to b.c eliminate fuel as an issue.

My 70 L46 I had since I could get leaded gas at the pump(1973).
Of all the concoctions, 100 LL was the fuel the car ran best with.

Where the heck do you find 100 LL avgas for $4.30/gallon?

As others have stated, your engine may run okay on mogas especially if to you have 93 PON available. The actual true CR may be closer to 10.5 than 11 even if the engine was never rebuilt in the field, but most have been with a thicker head gaskets that lowers CR and sometimes "low compression" pistons. The lazy emission control oriented spark advance map may help (but not the ported vacuum advance) to quell detonation, but it also quells a lot of torque, power ,and fuel economy.

Curious, what do you pay for the 112? Where are you located?

I'm in NJ. Fuel comes out of PA.

I run mine, a 1970, on 93. So far, so good. A little rattle if I give it too much gas at too low an rpm.

My 70 did fine on 93 unleaded. Maybe just me but did think the engine sounded better on 110 though if you ran it hard.

I challenge anybody on the following; of course it is JMHO. Buy some 100LL at your local airport in cans.(It is against the law
to fill up a car at the airports pumps. Run enough Pure Av Gas to get all the current fuel out of the car's system so it is running
on Pure Av Gas. I then summit that your C1-C2-Early C3's ORIGINAL(No modifications) Corvette Engines will>START BETTER-IDLE BETTER-RUN AND ACCELERATE BETTER compared to what you are running now. No it is not cheap to buy
BUT>It is the only READILY AVAILABLE FUEL THAT IS CLOSE WHEN COMPARED TO THE FUEL THAT WAS AVAILABLE WHEN YOUR CORVETTE ENGINE WAS MADE. PERIOD. Plus it will stay fresh (less deterioration)then most fuel. Comments Please>Larry
P.S. You will notice the difference in a very short time
