1966..Sidepipes-- Factory installed or added on later?

Were my side pipes (N14) factory installed or added later on?

I have a 1966 Coupe 427/425H HP Coupe. Lots of factory options on this car. A lot more than someone would normally order.

I have no history of what options came car came with..only what appears to be factory installed inside and not underneath.

My question is, how can I tell if the side pipes (N14) were factory installed or added on later?

The car is going into the shop next month for a tune up and I will have a chance to have it up on the rack
to look at the underneath and take pics.

What can I look at or where should I look to see if they were factory originals or if the muffler system was removed and the pipes added later on?

Any suggestions of bolts, nuts, holes, brackets, welds, look at this, look for that, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Bill,

Do you have the latest edition of the 1966 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide? If not, it would be useful to get. On page 194 it lists 9 things to look for to assess if side exhaust was original vs added after production.

Does your car have an AO Smith body? If so, the answer is simple because no AO Smith bodies had side exhaust.

It is a St Louis Body.

I do have the book but I am looking for things that can be pointed out with a quick look.
As mentioned the car is going up on a lift next month so that I can verify some things including
the pipes.

Bill,
While not the best of pictures, here are a couple showing the notches in the frame. Also, look inside the rear wheel well for the crescent shaped cutout to clear the end of the pipe. Picture below of the passenger side.

Thanks a lot. Basically this is the first and most important starting point (notches). I downloaded the pics along with along with some other notes (drilled holes-threaded etc) for when the car goes up on the lift.

Once you have seen and feel real notches you can distinguish what is real and what is fake.

Bill... Page A4 of the AIM shows the correct cuts . I believe there's a rear tab on the above photo that should be removed.
