    65 Coupe Restoration parking lights

While finishing my body off on my coupe, I now have no front parking lights and no left turn signal. With the switch at the first detent, I do not get power to the purple wire on the left parking light plug under the hood at the front of the car. Bulkhead connection problem?

    Happy New Year,

Dave sometimes the best way to track down electrical problems is to wiggle connections while you have the park lights turned on. I would start at firewall that’s the easiest. Then the H/L switch connection. Make sure if you plugged the Switch connector in you did not bend any of the spades on the switch. I’ve seen this done. check your turn signal switch under dash sometimes you can push pins out of the connector.

      Ed,

When you say start at the firewall first, do you mean the bulkhead connection?

            Ed,
I traced the parking light problem to the outer bulkhead connection. As I mentioned, the fuse side connector was damaged by an autobody tech who mistook the connector for the battery disconnect. I jumped from the fuse side to the engine side harness pin and got the lights to work. I am sure other light issues are caused by the bulkhed connector pins. I have a Lectric Limited repiar kit but I drilled a hole where the missing tab was and I am going to try to coonect the engine side to the fuse side using the screw as the upper connector.

              Dave,
Just out of curiosity...are you using old harnesses on a fresh restoration? I'm not sure I completely understand what you're prescribing as a solution, but it reads to me like your inviting further trouble. Could you describe this "using the screw as the upper connector" solution a bit more clearly.

I had the same thought. GM gave a life expectancy of 15 years to a harness. Safety says, to replace old wires.

                  Dave,

Make sure the wire terminal connection at the base of the steering column is fully seated.
