    1980 Corvette Engine Lift Bracket ??? (GM # 458537 or 14047070)

Can anyone identify the engine lift bracket as shown in my photo?
Could it be GM # 458537 as shown in the 1979 Corvette Parts Catalog (June 1979) in Gr. 0.004 or could it be GM # 14047070 as shown in my 1982 Corvette Parts Catalog (Nov. 1981) listed for the 1980 Corvette w/305 engine?

Image attached has both engine pull brackets from my 1980. Note they do NOT have that right side (your photo) extension or hole.

      David,
Attached are a set engine lift brackets similar to your brackets that I was told were from a 1970 Camaro SS350. The large bracket has a stamped letter "L" and the small bracket has the letter "M" inside a larger letter "C".

In my collection I have other similar engine lift brackets stamped with a "horseshoe" or an omega, the letter "S", the letter "K, "UTV" inside a circle, and some without any stampings.

Your small bracket appears to have the "UTV" stamping inside a circle. Does your large bracket have a stamping, maybe on the back side?

Based on my research the small rear bracket is GM # 3932243 in Gr. 0.004.

        Dave------

I'm virtually certain that this bracket is a GM #458537. The GM #458537 replaced the GM #14047070 in October, 1988. However, the 458537 was actually released in about 1977 and well prior to 1988. I cannot find any original application for the 458537 but it was used across all GM car lines. I expect that what occurred was that GMSPO determined that the 458537 would SERVICE all applications that originally used the 14047070 and, likely, other brackets. Thus, the 14047070 was discontinued in favor of the 458537 in the interests of part number consolidation.

If the bracket in your photo was originally installed on a 1970 Camaro, then it was of some part number other than 14047070 because the latter did not exist in 1970. Obviously, it's similar, if not identical, to the 14047070. I have not been able to determine just what that 1970 part number was.

          Joe,
I agree with you that the bracket in my first post is GM # 458537 as this part number first appears in Gr. 0.004 in my 1977 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (excluding Corvettes) (Mar. 1977) for the following:
          77 B (305, 350)..................458537 BRACKET, front

In the photo of my alleged 1970 Camaro SS350 brackets the small rear bracket is definitely GM # 3923243. The large front bracket might be
GM # 3923240 or might be GM # 3995632.....????? Researching these brackets is very difficult and I have a lot of vintage parts catalogs (1963 to 1981).

You're right; researching these brackets is very difficult as there is, of course, no information in the AIM's as the brackets were installed at the engine plants and information in P&A catalogs and other sources is "skimpy" and "spotty".

I don't think the bracket you show for the 1970 Camaro is either a 3923240 or a 3995632, though. The 3923240 is a 1968 released bracket and I don't think this style bracket was being used as early as 1968 for any application. The 3995632 bracket would have been a 1971 or 1972 released part so it would not have existed as early as 1970.

Forward bracket has a reverse "L", rear bracket has "A.T.D." within a circle. There are no manufacturer's marks on reverse of either bracket.

The "L" probably denotes "left" which is the side of the engine the bracket is installed on. The "ATD" is almost certainly the manufacturer's ID mark.

                  Joe,

The two brackets in the photos are from a 1970 Z28 (as well as other Chevrolet models). Each bracket is stamped with the letter "M" inside a much larger letter "C". The rear bracket on the left side of the photo is GM # 3923243. I do not know the part number of the front bracket on the right side of the photos. There is a 1,100 mile 1970 Camaro Z28 (Van Nuys body with Flint engine) on the web with brackets exactly like mine with the same stampings.

Correction: I have another set of these brackets from a 1970 Chevrolet 350 w/A.C. where the engine was made in Canada (stamped "K0515CNU" or May 15, 1970). The rear bracket (with 90 degree bend) has the "S" stamping. The front bracket with (130 degree bend) does not have any stampings.

Do you know if 1969 Z28 models came with brackets stamped with a "horseshoe" (or omega) symbol?

                  Dave

The bracket you show on the right is the same as I am used to seeing on 1970 Corvette small blocks. Since I see them installed on the engine I don't have the opportunity to see the manufacturer's logo, but I might have a loose one in my stash of parts (none for sale) and I will check in the next day or two.

                        Terry,
I just cleaned the 2 brackets from a 1970 Chevrolet 350 w/A.C. where the engine was made in Canada (stamped "K0515CNU" or May 15, 1970) with my wire wheel and the front bracket (130 degree bend) has the letter "S" stamped near the small hole. The rear bracket (90 degree bend), (GM # 3923243) does not have any stampings.
