Is this an acceptable Face Shield at NCRS Chapter, Regional, and National events. FACE SHIELD..

Ray,

A face shield offers some additional eye protection compared to a mask, but the CDC update as of Aug 7 says “the CDC does not currently recommend use of face shields as a substitute for masks.” I don’t know what guidance the NCRS offers, but if it were me, I would would start by wearing a quality mask, and add a face shield if you want additional eye protection.

If you decide just to use a face shield, one that has decent wrap around, and goes down past your chin is where I would start. The one you’re modeling looks OK to me. But personally, I never go in public without a face mask.

That is NOT an acceptable face shield as it does not protect the wearer or anyone else. Unless the owner has Covid and is passing it on by sneezing in your face!

Using a face mask protects everyone! Please use it!

OK I'll start the argument:
A face mask protects other people only (no N95), it's common curiosity to your fellow citizen, ie it mainly stops the spread from you, remember you could have the covid for days before any symptoms.

Since the face shield also protects your eyes, a source of probable infection entry, that will help you.
And then if you ware a N95 approved face mask YOU have protection, at least to some extent. Ask your friends that work the E room
in hospitals what they ware, bets it's all three.

I have been asked to respond to your question. Unfortunately the use of a face shield alone would not be acceptable at any of the NCRS events. As stated above by Gary, a face shield in not recommended by the CDC at the present time. The current recommendation for use of a face shield is only as an adjunct to a face mask/face covering. The face shield provides protection from touching your face, and protecting your eyes from aerosolized droplets or splashes of fluid. In general, it is a recommendation only for healthcare providers in high risk situations. (For example, I currently use it in the emergency department to place all of my breathing tubes into my patients in addition to my N95 mask.) A face shield does not prevent the aerosolization of particles in a cough and/or sneeze by the wearer no matter the design. A face mask/covering is far more effective in capturing those droplets. The face shield alone would not be an appropriate replacement to a face mask/covering to protect the interest of all of our members. Hope that helps.
