    63 / 64 Rear Drums

This is a one on me, so I'll ask for opinions. Just cleaning up a set of rear drums I pulled off of a 64 15 years ago. They are 3828688. The strange this is one is stamped L and one is stamped R. Opinions...

Harry I am not sure why they are marked left and right
But back in the day when I was a kid working in the Auto Parts store I machined hundreds of drums and rotors
The mechanics always marked them left and right so they would be returned to their original position

Harry, my 64 had metallic brake shoes, J65, front has an X stamped in it, rear had L stamped in it, were 688 castings on rear. FWIW.

Several reasons they may be marked R or L and front or rear BUT they are is no such animal.

All are the same. Passenger cars are the same.

I had read that the std and J65 drums were the same casting number, but they were listed with a different part number VS the standard drums due to a finer surface finish being required for seating Metallic shoes?
I had been doing a bit of research because a customer recently picked up a 64 metallic brake car which was owned purchased new by a GM engineer, Frank Kostiuk and I was curious. .
