    1972 Distributor rebuild source?

Does anyone have a source for rebuilding a 1972 distributor?

The cross shaft took out the main shaft gear on this one. As a result the main shaft need to be replaced. The cross gear does too, but that's easy.
I need someone who can then either swap the original advance football on to a new shaft, or recurve the distributor for me once they put it all together.

Some of the catalog companies offer this, but I called yesterday and they just source it out with a minimum 4 week turnaround time.

I know that Dave Fiedler does some distributor work, but he's not inexpensive.

    Thanks.

The autocam is only attached to the mainshaft by brazing. I think you could actually do this yourself with a MAP gas torch. Otherwise, anyone who is proficient in brazing ought to be able to do it.

Don Baker @ 815-210-3057...he's rebuilt thousands of these units.

Is this for the same car that has the flooding problem? Did you sort that out?

There's no need to swap the OE "football" to a new mainshaft. That piece affects the shape of the advance curve, but the effect is relatively minor. In any event, all '72 distributors were set up for emissions, not performance or fuel economy.

I provide suggested starting points for remapping the distributors for emission controlled engines in my tuning seminar.

Don Baker is your man for most any kind of distributor. TI, FI, Carb.
I talk to my pal every day. We were supposed to set up in my spaces at Corvette Carlisle this year and both of us our sad that we didn't/couldn't go.

I recommend Steve Newsom of Northwest Florida Distributor Service. d64sln@gmail.com; 850-776-7334.

He's a good old boy with a couple of Sun machines who rebuilt two Corvette distributors for me with good results. Very reasonable, fast turn-around and responsive to calls and email.

Now the tach works well and he will map any advance curve you want.

                      Mark,

I second that. Steve Newsom is very good and responsive with fast turn around. He will set the curve you want within the limits of the OE football cam or install a different football cam if needed. Steve's prices are reasonable for the quality of work he does.
