Joe, I was just saying what I heard in 2006. Right or wrong? Every PF46 I've bought since 2006 was black.
Harry------
Yes, I've never seen a red teflon coated seal on any conventional AC oil filter. So, it's quite possible they were only installed on PRODUCTION oil filters. However, they were certainly not exclusive to PRODUCTION oil filters as you can see from my photos all of which are, of course, SERVICE ACDelco oil filters.
The purpose of the red teflon coating is to make the filters easier to remove by preventing them from "sticking".
The UPF series of oil filters utilize synthetic media to improve filtration. I believe that Mobil 1 branded filters were the first to use this technology which has now expanded to most of the filter manufacturers for their "premium" oil filters.
Terry, I have mine from my 2006. It has the red rubber seal making it an original. I can send pictures also when they ask for them.
Cheers
Realizing I'm deviating from the original post's topic, I'll add to the C6 subject:
FWIW, on the matter of C6 oil filters, I kept mine from my 2010 (Wixom-built LS3) Grand Sport. Happy to dig it out and share photos if/as needed. I can offer photos of anything else on the car as well. It's now an 8,500 mile coupe with manual trans.

I am going to start a seperate thread on this subject.
Posting C6 original oil filters made me hunt down the original filter I pulled from the 2000, a PF-44 with one of those nice red seals. Had not noticed it before nor, as I recall is it captured in the newly printed 1st edition 2000-02 manual.
