I am original owner of '77 L-82, ordered it and watched it come off the truck. It has the flap.

Thank you for that clarification; you're correct. I should have been more specific and identified 1978 as the first year with the Thermac valve used on dual air cleaner snorkels, which is the item that Michael is trying to identify. I believe the 1977 L-82 used a single snorkel.

Back to the original question of what that air cleaner came from; here are pictures of a '79 base engine auto I previously owned. It is original and all correct.

No dual snorkle on 76 -77 no matter what engine . Single snorkle with thermac and L/S heat tube

80 vette air cleaner.jpgOriginal air cleaner from my 1980 L 48. You see the year on the left part of the sticker. Not much to look at but I drove the car off the lot new in 1980.
