Re: Info on 65 ser #002
I was under the impression that early 65 frames did not have the depression in the front crossmember for big blocks. Was 003 a GM test vehicle with a modified frame or what? You have aroused our curiosity.- Top

Re: Info on 65 ser #002
Yes, it was an Engineering test vehicle. '64 convertible body with hand-laid "gills" in the front fenders, etc. Expansion tank mounted at the front of the motor in the area of the thermostat housing, fender emblems that I believe said "Mark IV 427" (?), painted a Cadillac green, etc.
First appeared (to me) at the Sheraton 2 1/2 in Boston in 1985 in the hands of the late and legendary Jack Pringle of Detroit and went reiatively unnoticed. Now in the Midwest.- Top

Re: Info on 65 ser #002
I don't know anything about the car itself, but the complete motor assy. was donated from Chevrolet to a university in central ks; to be a "teaching aide" in their auto shop dept. the motor was an L84,and it was very complete, including:FI unit,Dist.(including cap and wires-no top cover, but had spark plug covers),exhaust manifolds(they each had the vin. derivative stamped on them, same font as the engine stamp pad.-Also had the clutch and bell housing,as well as the balancer, oil pan, valve covers and water pump. I don't remember whether or not if it had an idler pulley. The FI unit was complete down to the hose adapter on the air meter, but it had a plate riveted to the top cover stating it was donated from Chevrolet.- Top

Re: Info on 65 ser #002
Jack Pringle was a close friend and neighbor. His car #03 was originally built especially for Bunkie Knudson. As expected it had several unusual features which included engine, emblems & paint color. I believe it was the first 427 Corvette. Do not know why it would need restoration, Jack knew people inside GM and kept the car pretty original. He did attempt to repaint and found it real difficult to match the original color shade.- Top
