C2 Steering Box Lubrication and Fill Procedure

After reading many posts about the recommended lube for my 1967 Steering Box it seems that GM part number 12377985 is the best lube. Is this still considered the recommended lube? How much lube is required after rebuilding the box? Is the correct fill procedure to fill thru the lower cover screw hole (as installed in the car) until grease comes out the middle cover screw hole? Thanks for the help.

Gary if your going to rebuild the box us the GM chassis grease I believe it’s still available, one tube should be enough. You can put grease directly into box as you assy

GM #12377985 is the "direct descendant" of the GM #1052084 originally specified for 1963-82 Corvette steering gears. It can also be used for rear wheel bearings and general chassis lubrication. So, it's practically an all-purpose lubricant.

However, for front wheel bearings GM specifies GM #1051344. I recommend this for BOTH front and rear wheel bearings.

Both of the above-referenced remain available from GM as of this date.
