    C2 Northern Star Mfg Carpet Underlayment.

    I’ve read carpet and Underlayment threads ad nauseam! My original carpet and Underlayment was just another item that was completely missing from my 20+ stored year project car started by someone so I have no frame of reference other than what I can find here.
    Because Norther Star is the only manufacturing company that makes as close to original firewall insulation, I thought that carpet Underlayment would be of the same level of accuracy. I ordered and received the Norther Star Underlayment from one of the vendors that is known for supplying the most accurate products available. This stuff seems awfully think, almost 1/2” uncompressed and probably 3/8 when glued down and carpet over it. Has anyone else used this product and if not, what Underlayment did you use to most accurately reflect original. If this is the “right stuff” and it works fine then I’ll get busy installing. Feedback and advice appreciated!

    Wow, with the hundreds of threads on this forum I’m amazed no one has a comment on carpet Underlayment. Should I rephrase my question to what Underlayment did you use vendor/brand? Or perhaps, how thick is the product you used?
    Thanks Tom

      Tom;
      The lack of interest may be that it is typically not judged and the carpet can't be pulled back to even look. Sometimes we are just stuck with what we can find. I know many use the modern sound/heat deadeners under the carpet. Just makes for a more comfortable ride. If it fits and doesn't cause the carpet to raise at the seams or bends I would likely use it.
      You have done the best you can with the material available today.
      Cheers
      Rick

        Tom---I used ACC carpets that seemed accurately molded to fit the floor of the car, but the underlayment I bought from them seemed way too thick to allow the carpet to fit properly. That sounds like the situation you describe. I wound up using Thermo-Tec 14620 that I got on Amazon. It looks nothing like the original, but it is very easy to use. It is about 1/8" thick, silver on the upside and black self adhesive on the bottom side. They also make a product that is silver on both sides and requires contact cement to adhere to the floor. I used my ACC underlayment as a pattern to cut the pieces, and I also used the Thermo-Tec in places the ACC stuff did not cover because the thin Therm-Tec was easy to place anywhere I thought it would help.
